Heralded as one of the fastest growing sports in America, Pickleball is on the rise in Long Beach and groups can get into the action!
The sport is played similarly to tennis as singles or doubles with doubles being most popular. One of the ways group tour operators can participate is to attend the 2nd Annual Octoberfest Picklepalooza which takes the Peninsula by storm on Oct 26-28, 2018. Last year’s competition welcomed over 100 players from across the country including areas as far away as Arizona, Idaho, and British Columbia, Canada! Groups are welcome as spectators or competitors. If group tour operators are planning on playing please register no later than October 28th. Team registration is accepted on a space available basis until October 28th. To register for the competition click here. Skill levels for the tournament should be ranked with players in the 3.0 to 5.0 range. The schedule for the tournament is as follows: Friday is women’s doubles, Saturday is mixed doubles, and Sunday is men’s doubles. The tournament is Co-sponsored with Rotary Club of SW Pacific County Peninsula to raise money for local area children holiday programs. Tournament Info available on www.pickleballtournaments.com.
Another way group tour operators can get in on the fun is to drop in for a Pickleball clinic. Clinics are taught by Roman Sada, Tennis/Pickleball Director each week on Wednesday and Thursday from 12:00 PM to 1: 00 PM. Roman comes to us from Boca Raton, FL after teaching there for eighteen years. He hails from his native Czech Republic where he was the #2 national junior player and went on to professional tours until suffering a shoulder injury. In addition to being an elite tennis player, Roman was on the Czech national junior downhill ski team.
Participants should wear comfortable athletic shoes and clothes and be prepared to stand for periods of time and play. Pickleball paddles are provided on site.
Already know how to play? Groups are welcome to play Pickleball at the Lighthouse Tennis Center, in an indoor pickleball environment with four (4) striped courts on one of two tennis courts. Courts are open daily for open play from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Cost $5 per player and all skill levels and ages are welcome. Join players aged 9 to 80 years young playing at Lighthouse Resort! Bus parking is available and there is no charge for parking.
